[Front Cover] Near-field localization of the boson peak on tantalum films for superconducting quantum devices

Published in The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, 2023

Observe unreported THz spectral anomaly —boson peaks— across two rare-earth metallic oxide phases on tantalum surface (beyond silicon-based), correlating to amorphous oxides at the nanoscale, which is contributing as loss channels or two-level systems in cryogenic temperature measurements.
